Susan is an immigration lawyer with over fifteen (15) years of experience assisting individuals, families, and employers in connection with assessing available United States immigration options.

Her practice includes preparing and filing individual, family-based, and employment-based petitions, immigrant and nonimmigrant visa applications, and waivers of inadmissibility. She assists with complex consular processing issues, complicated citizenship and naturalization issues, petitions for humanitarian relief, and removal defense. She advises employers regarding worksite compliance, conducting internal I-9 audits and trainings, and negotiating with United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) regarding employer sanctions.

A former criminal defense attorney, Susan also advises individuals and employers regarding immigration consequences of criminal conduct. She represents clients before Unites States Citizenship and Immigration Services, United States Department of State, United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement, United States Customs and Border Protection, United States Department of Labor, and the Executive Office of Immigration Review.

Susan is frequently asked to speak at conferences and community events regarding immigration law and is fluent in Spanish. Susan earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Emory University in Psychology and Spanish and completed her Juris Doctor at St. Mary’s University School of Law.

Melisa Boris graduated from Ohio University with a Bachelor of Science in Communications and is a North Carolina Certified Paralegal by the North Carolina Bar Association. She has over twenty (20) years of experience administering immigration processes and procedures, managing relationships with corporate clients, and drafting a wide range of employment-based immigration petitions. Prior to joining Womble Bond Dickinson, Melisa spent 13 years as Immigration Practice Team Manager & Team Lead at Moore & Van Allen.

Carr Hughes graduated from the University of Virginia with a Bachelor of Arts in Foreign Affairs. She also earned a Master of Arts degree in Higher Education from the University of Arizona. Carr possesses over twenty (20) years of immigration law experience and for over a decade managed the immigration program for a large financial institution. Currently, Carr coordinates and implements the team’s operating systems and processes.

Amy Schuler graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a Bachelor of Arts (honors) in a dual degree program – Spanish Language and Literature and English Literature. Post-graduation, she qualified as a contract linguist for the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Amy has been solely dedicated to the field of immigration law since 1997, and excels at developing client relationships, executing complex case strategies, and managing large corporate accounts in a variety of industries. She enjoys reading, traveling, and outdoor activities with family and friends.
